Compensation: $24.00 / hour

The Cafe Lead will perform every function a barista does, with some additional responsibilities. 

Serving as an essential function for guests to the cafe and Hotel Lucile; the cafe lead will practice generous hospitality, expert technical execution and coffee knowledge, they set the tone for our guests’ day.

Not only will the Cafe Lead be responsible for quickly and precisely producing coffee and tea drinks of the highest possible quality, but also for engaging our guests with intuition, intelligence, empathy and generosity.

The Cafe Lead will also be responsible for training new staff as well as ongoing training, will take inventory counts and perform some product ordering tasks. They will attend to both guest needs as well as staff needs.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensuring the coffeebar is fully stocked, well maintained and in good working order
  • Taking inventory and placing orders for key coffeebar ingredients such as coffee, tea, and milks
  • Training new team members and auditing performance to ensure that cafe standards are consistently met
  • Keeping F&B leadership looped in on all important coffeebar matters
  • Leading or assisting in execution of promotional events and activations
  • Preparing coffee, tea and other drinks with speed and technical precision
  • Warmly greeting and conversing with guests 
  • Assisting with any guest need or concern
  • Adhering to Hotel Lucile cafe and Casetta hospitality and brand standards
  • Running coffee, tea, food and other items to guest tables
  • Taking guest orders and handling cash
  • Problem solving issues as they arise to ensure continuity in the guest experience
  • Opening and closing the cafe; deep cleaning, managing checklists and performing some preventative maintenance
  • Light prep tasks, such as preparing cold brew concentrate, making fresh fruit shrubs, dosing coffee and tea, etc.
  • Keeping the cafe area organized and clean
  • Maintaining a positive environment and fun vibe in the cafe

Requirements: 

  • Expertise in coffee preparation and strong coffee knowledge
  • Professional demeanor and appearance
  • Stong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • One year of experience in hospitality and/or coffee preferred
  • Basic computer proficiency including ability to read and input data into spreadsheets

About Hotel Lucile: Hotel Lucile is a landmark boutique property in the heart of Silver Lake, Los Angeles. Originally a church constructed in 1931, the building has seen several iterations of its purpose, with a rich history to inform its present day persona. The property includes 25 guest rooms, a restaurant and bar within the former sanctuary, choir loft and roof top communal spaces, pool, and gym.

A rotating program of artists and exhibitions, thoughtful minibar selection, and community programming will all bring dimension to the experience for both hotel guests and locals alike. While elements of the building have evolved, as it has been doing for nearly a century, many original elements have been preserved to maintain its distinct character against the contemporary design, such as the original stained glass, soaring ceiling beams, window frames, and wood flooring. 

Hotel Lucile is looking forward to opening its doors to the neighborhood once again — as a second home for those coming from afar to explore the city, and locals looking for a space to gather.
